Catamaran Sailing
Lifetime Adventures
Description
When designing the hull lines of the Swiss Catamaran 55, François Perus and Romain Scolari focused on a design intended for fast cruising on the open sea: being able to sail in any sea in comfort and safety, with a fast and extremely easy to steer catamaran. The result is a high-performance multihull that is wave-resistant and has excellent sailing properties.
Even in the renderings, the modern and powerful shape of the hull is evident. It features a low rocker to promote glide and acceleration in the wind and create dynamic lift to reduce pitching and heeling. The displacement takes into account the load requirements for an offshore cruiser where perfect balance is achieved by keeping the weights centered and the fore and aft mirrors empty.
The mast is of medium length in order to have a balanced sail plan between mainsail and foresail with large extension sails for greater efficiency. The sail plan also includes a self-tacking jib for easier maneuvering, a genoa for more power and a gennaker.
Weight study is a very important aspect during design, and the bridge is calibrated to allow weight control and maximum interior habitability. The structure has been optimized by the specialized company Rivoyre Ingénierie with the use of carbon fibers wherever reinforcements are required.
The deck layout is centralised around the roof, and the twin rudders (single rudder model also available) are located in the cockpit area, which is well protected from the elements and positioned for excellent visibility fore and aft. Electric remote control options are possible. The overall design of the Swiss Catamaran 55 is definitely eye-catching: very sharp reverse bows emphasize high-performance hulls.
The collaboration between Marco Amadio, Christian Paulish, Swisscat Yachts and Yacht Design Collective aimed to design a catamaran rich in details, but with great cleanliness in the lines easily recognizable by a strong identity, with details typical of Italian craftsmanship such as a low beltline and a low hard-top with pleats.
The deck drains have been designed to ensure a clean and dry deck at all times, and the tunnel is raised to ensure performance sailing, even in rough sea conditions. However, the resolutely sporty design gives way to a spacious interior in which there is a saloon. Situated around the central island, it has opening windows and good headroom.
The pontoon has reverse glazing to ensure perfect shade, but also a 360° panoramic view from the dining area, without blind spots. The cabins are very bright and comfortable with ergonomic spaces designed for maximum comfort. The Swiss Catamaran 55 standard comes with retractable daggerboards to allow for upward wind speeds like those of a fast monohull, sailing in shallow water and approaching land in the most beautiful bays. The standard equipment also includes a carbon mast and synthetic rigging that ensures excellent rigidity throughout the sail plan with the lowest possible center of gravity, thus reducing pitching to a minimum.
All maneuvers of the Swiss Catamaran 55 can be operated by electric winches, such as the headsails and daggerboards, the mainsail, the jib/genoa sheets and the halyards.
Like all previous Swisscat models, the new 55 offers a wide range of truly personalized options depending on the owners preferences, and of course the budget. Some options like mast, rigging, sails, interior design, number of rudders, number of cabins, to name a few, can be completely customized according to the owner. We would also be happy to provide you with our suggestions and help you during the design process.

I'm interested in buying this catamaran but have questions
There are many ways to buy a catamaran and the procedure varies between manufacturers. It's a process that takes time and you should not be afraid of starting talks with the manufacturer.
Here are some common questions you might have:
Can I afford it? Talk to the manufacturer and they can advise you on financing options.
Can I sail it? Arrange a test sail with the manufacturer, or ask them directly what kind of support and education they offer for boat buyers.
If you need anything else, be it more details, an introduction to the manufacturer, a shipyard visit, a test sail, or help with customatization, let us know on the Help Me page after clicking below and we’ll help you take the next step.
